VITAL STATISTICS.

CHRISTCHURCH DISTRICT. The vital statistics for the Christchurch district show that there were 53 fewer deaths in 1927 than in 1926 and 84 more than in 1925. There were 87 fewer births registered in 1927 than in 1926 and 33 fewer than in 1925. In 1927 there were four more marriages than in 1926 and 48 more than in 1925. Births registered in Palmcrston North in the past year constituted a record, totalling 601, compared with 593 last year, which was the previous best. A slight increase was shown in deaths, but the number is no more than the average. Marriages show a decrease compared with last year, when the figures constituted a record.
