NEW YORK, November 9.
With further danger from the New England floods definitely past the work of relief and rehabilitation is progressing rapidly. Soldiers and Red Cross volunteers are caring for the refugees in temporary barracks. The situation generally was greatly improved, notwithstanding snow and intensely cold weather in some sections.
Sufficient food and medical supplies have reached the centres where the suffering is most severe, and the danger of disease has been greatly lessened. It is impossible at present to compile a complete list of the dead, but 85 bodies have been identified, the majority of whom were residents of Vermont.
An enormous acreage of land is tinder water, rendering many homes still inaccessible to the rescuers with supplies, but the problem is now largely one of administration and the re-establishmenfc of the lines of communication.
