U.S. ELECTIONS.
TWO MEN SHOT IN KENTUCKY. NEGROES' HOMES DYNAMITED. (bt cable— pbess association—coptbight.) (acstbalian a>o> if.2. cablx association.) (■Received November 9th, 7.45 p.m.) NEW YORK, November 8. Two men were shot dead during election frays in Kentucky and the homes of several negroes were dynamited in Ohio.
In to-day's balloting, the early returns show that Mississippi, which is traditionally Democratic, elected all Democratic State officials, headed by Mr Theodore G. Bilbo as Governor,
Mr Slack, who is aligned with the Ku-Klux-Klan minority of the Indiana Democratic Party, was elected Mayor of Indianapolis, succeeding Mr Duvall. New York State elected a Republican Assembly, with a majority of 30 seats. Cleveland voted to retain the city manager plan of Government. Ooncord. New Hampshire, re-elected a male Mayor, defeating a lady aspirant for this office.
_ Philadelphia elected a Republican city administration. Pennsylvania and New York each chose Republicans to fill the vacancies in the Federal House of Representatives. Ohio defeated a proposal urged by the AntiSaloon League to restore the fee system for Justices trying liquor cases. [A previous cable message stated that at Indianapolis, Mr Jackson, Governor of Indiana, and two other officials were indicted by the Grand Jury for attempted bribery and conspiracy to commit felony, and Mr Duvall, Mayor of Indianapolis, was indicted for violating the Corrupt Practices Act.]
SOCIALISTS FAIL IN NEW YORK
(AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received November 9th, 8.40 p.m.) NEW YORK, November 8. Salt Lake City, Utah, elected a complete Republican City Administration. New York City failed to reelect its two Socialist judges, and all Socialists running for office in the State were defeated. The majority of the Mayors elected are Republicans. New Jersey re-elected a Republican Assembly, and the City of Reading, Pennsylvania, elected a complete Socialist City Administration as a popular protest against the extravagance of the previous Administration. Detroit elected Mr Smith, Mayor. He declared that he intends to make no effort to enforce the Prohibition laws.
