WAIMATE.
MAGISTRATE'S COURT. Charged with an indecent offence at Studfiolme Junction, K. Bailey, a young married man, appeared before Messrs W. E. Evans and Peter Grant, Justices of the Peace, in the Magistrate 's Court. Detective Walker conducted the case for the police, and accused was represented by Mr James Emslie (Timaru)Accused pleaded not guilty, but after tho conclusion of the evidence the Bench found him guilty, and released accused on probation for. twelve months. Accused was ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution. Waimate Cricket Club. Mr G. F. Kichardson presided over the annual meeting of the Waimate Cricket Club, there being a good attendance. The balance-sheet showed a debit balance of £7. With a view to remedying the financial position, it was decided to make a canvass for honorary members, A letter having been received from Timaru stating that there was a probability of a Thursday afternoon competition being arranged in Timaru for the coming season, tho meeting discussed the advisability of entering for the competition, it being considered that the Waimate Club might be in a position to enter two teams.
Officers elected for the ensiling year were as follows:—Patrons, Messrs J. Bitchencr, M.P., George Dash, and E. U. Studholme; president, Mr N. A. Ruttray; club captain, Mr T. Stevens; secretary, Mr D. Keyes; treasurer, Mr J. Flanagan; general committee, Messrs Allen, Rudd, Tew, and Foster; delegate to Timaru Association, Mr W. G. Tweed}-. The opening of the season was arranged to take place on Thursday, September 29 th. Anio Euclire Club. At the euchre party held in the Ivapua schoolroom there was a large attendance, and there were some keen contests and exciting play, the games being conducted under the supervision of Mr W. Nelmes. Mrs C. Wright proved the winner of the ladies' prize, the men's prize being secured by Mr J. Meredith. The consolation prizes were won by Miss Ena Olorenshafr and Mr T. Gray. Supper brought a very enjoyable evening to a close. Golf Notes. Recent competitions played by the Waimate Ladies'' Golf flub resulted as follows: — Fourth bogey round, Miss D. Manchester, 2 up; third grade, Mrs Fraser, 4 down; fifth medal round, Miss R. Hertslet, gross 82, net 73; third grade, Miss M. Pitts, net 55. Third foursomes round, third grade, Mrs Middleton and Mrs Scott 40. Miss R. Hertslet was the winder of the Reilly Shield, with a net score of 151 for her best two medal rounds. Tho finalists for the senior championship aro Mrs Fitch and Miss R. Hertslet,' and for the junior championship, Mrs Hertslet and Miss S. Hertsiet. Miss M. Pitts won the third grade championship. A match between the Waimate and Timaru Clubs resulted in a win for Tiniaru Club, which proved much stronger than Waimato in the singles, but the Waimate players made a better showing in the foursomes. In the ladies' singles the results were, Waimate 21, Timaru 74; in the men's singles, Waimate 1, Timaru 7; and in tho mixed foursomes, Waimate 36, Timaru <s£. A match lias been arranged to take place between Waimate and Oamaru Clubs and will be played on October Gth.
