PERSONAL. Mr I. W. T. Baxter leaves Temuka this morning on a trip to New South Waleß and Central Australia. Tlie Weather. Following on a few days of almost summer weather, drizzling rain comtfnenced to fall on Tuesday forenoon and continued right through the day and night. Up to 9 a.m. yesterday, 74 points had been registered. Navy League. A meeting of the local branch of the Navy League was held on Tuesday evening. Present: Mr J. J. Ellis (in the chair), Mesdames Hayhurst, Koutledge, C. E. Brenmer, Miss Manson, and Mr \V. J. Cartwright (hon. secretary); also D. Kawson, junior member. A motion of, sympathy was passed with Mr Mathews in his continued state of ill-health. The branch was notified that Earl Jellieoe had accepted the position as patron of the New Zealand Navy League. Mr Hughes, Geraldine, wrote agreeing to judge the Temuka riding school children's essays. ' It was decided to spend a sum not exceeding two guineas for the Nelson Day essay prizes, and that a committee consisting of Miss Manson, the president, and Mr Cartwright, be appointed to allocate the amount at their discretion.
