CHEVIOT.
A meeting of the St. John's Ladies' Guild was held at the vicarage recently, Mrs G. Widdup . presiding' over a good attendance of Mrs Widdup was appointed buyer for the Guild, and Miss F. Elliott undertook to do the cutting-out. Final arrangements were made in connexion with the Home Missiou festival on the occasion of the visit of the Bishop of Nelson. Stall-holders for tho bazaar were appointed, and it was decided to hold a gift afternoon in aid of the handkerchief stall next month. A grant of £3O was made to the ves'try for renovations at the vicarage. It was decided to meet once a fortnight during the summer months. At the conclusion of the business afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Miss Peake'and Mrs W. A. Elliott. The recent spell of warm weather has worked wonders on the pastures, and feed is coining away very well. Dairying is about to start in earnest, and prospects for the season appear bright. Mr Bruce Henderson, president of the North Canterbury Eugby Sub-Union, visited Cheviot on Saturday to witness the Cameron Shield match between Oxford and Cheviot and attended the football dinner in the evening. The football season, as far as outside matches are concerned, is now con-" eluded. The Cheviot Club lias had a» very successful season, having won both senior and junior competitions, both seven-a-side competitions, and in addition the seniors have successfully defended the Cameron Shield.' The record of the teams is as follows:—Seniors: Played 10, won 8, lost 1, drawn 1, points for 173, against 27; juniors: Played 10, won 8, lost 1, drawn 1, points for 117, against, 21. The various trophies won are to be presented at a social evening to be held later. A meeting of the Cheviot Band of Hope was held in the Presbyterian Hall recently, Mr J. Anderson presiding. The following programme wifs contributed:—Pianoforte solo, Mrs F. Flute; recitations, Misses B. Clifford, J. Truman, E. Williamson, K. Clifford, H. Rollinson, D. Poore, B. Truman, E. Williamson; address, Mr J. Anderson; vocal solos, Misses K. Clifford, N. Cone; duet, Misses D. and M. Truman.
ROLLESTON. A very successful hard-up social under the auspices of the Hall Committee in aid of the hall funds was held in the Memorial Hall recently. The prizes for best hard-up costumes were won by Miss Isabel Davison and Mr W. Sills (Springston). The music was supplied by Mr and Mrs S. Quaife. Mr P. Fiunegan was M.C. There was a fair attendance at the weekly euchre and dance on Saturday evening. The prize-winners for cuchre were:—Ladies, Miss Pearl Ivefland 1, Mrs W. Anning (Springston) 2; men, Mr W. Anning (Springston) 1, Mr f?. Creigliton 2. • • SPRINGSTON SOUTH. The series' of weekly euchres and dances run under the auspices of the Social Committee were advanced a further stage on Saturday evening, there being a good attendance. The prizewinners were Mrs W. Musson and Mr L. Blay. The dance music supplied by Mrs A. H. Clarke (Greenpark). Mr E. Hoskins was M.C. The United junior football team playetj a friendly game with Eolleston on the latter 'a ground on Saturday, both teams taking the field several men short. The game resulted in a win. for Eolleston by 16 points* to five. Mr L. Manion controlled the game.
