NORTH BEACH BURGESSES.
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Xorth Beach and Wuimairi Association was held in the Memorial Hall, when Mr E. A. M. Leaver presided over a good attendance. 4 | e,^er was;, received from the. New Brighton Borough Council stating that the various works asked. for by the Association had 'been put' in hand ari<j- that the matter of-motorists-speeding ajo,rig' the Esplanade had been referred to the police. In : reply- to a jitter from Mr 4,. Good? heart, organising secretary to the Traiffway Petition Committee, Mr Ralph Stringer attended to endeavour to enlist, if possible,' the sympathy and.the assistance of the Association in the campaign against the removal 01 uie tram-line (No. 10) for North Beach. After Mr Stringer had outlined the position of tTie campaign at the present time and tnc proposed work of the committee, a long discussion followed. Tt was moved-that-the Tramwiy Board fc'e asked_ to meet a committee of the Association in conference. This w»b opposed by Mr Stringer ar.d lapsed, the chairman substituting "the following motion, which was carried:—"That this Association considers it inadvisable for the Tramway Board to interfere with Ilia No. 10 tram service aa it will affect all districts in' and around Christchurch. The /.s----sociation also regrets that the ratepayers should be put to the expense of a poll and wouTd respectfully suggest that the 1 Board confer with representatives of the borough, preferably ' the Borough Council." On the molion of Mr D. Wilson .it was decided to thank the Board for the present greatly improved tram service. Mr R. Parker, delegate to the United Burgesses, reported that at the last meeting of that. body the only delegate who opposed the request of the Petitions Committee was the delegate from the Addington Burgesses' Association. It was decided to write to the Addington Burgesses asking thsm to enquire further into the matter of the tramway petition as it was a matter that affected all Christchurch district, and at the pre3snt was only asking for a poll. With regard to the forthcoming municipal elections, it was decided to nominate Mr R. Parker as' a candidate, to support the candidature of Mr H. A. Glasson and to ask Mr F. J. L. Scott to reconsider his decision not to seek re-elcction to the Council. On the motion of Mr Scott it was decided to invite the candidate for municipal honours to. address the electors of North Beach in the Ifemorial Hall on Saturdav. April 2o r rd.
