The year for the annual quota ends on the last day of June, .aud already for this year there are many niore than ICO applications for visas. In fact, there are enough applications already to complete nest year's quota as well. In view of the larger dumber than the quota allows wishing to emigrate to the States, Mr W. L. Lowrie, of the United States Consulate, was asked to-day if there was any chance.of Congress" increasing New Zealand's quota. He said he could give noreason why an increased number of New Zealanders wished to reside in the States, adding that the matter of increasing some of the quotas, including New Zealand, has been considered, but it had been decided to make no change for another year at least, except in the case of some of the larger countries. New Zealand, therefore, had to rest content with its quota of, 100 per year.
