The By-Laws and Finance Committee reported last evening;— "A letter has been received from the owner of property on the east corner of Aikman's road and Constance stroot, applying for permission to oroet a email shop on the present corner boundary, which is within 33 feet of the centre lino of these, two streets. Tlie Committee-Teeommcada that a permit bo-granted, subject to tbo owner (Mrs Crow) dedicating the necessary strip of laud off Mho frontages of her proporty in Altaian's road and Constance stroot, to wideu such streets to 33 feet from the centre lines of such streets along the wholo of hor frontages, and to round off the corner to a radius of 18 feet; tho Council to agree, when dedication is made, to allow the shop to be erected on her property and the property dodicated, subject to such shop not encroaching within 33 feet of tho centre lino of Constanco street, It will allow tho shop to bo erected'up to tho present boundary in Altaian's road, and will give an undertaking to allow that portion of the building, which will encroach on tho land dedicated for widening Aikman's road, to be rcmoved by Sirs Crow at hor own espenso, Mrs Crow to undertake to remove the shop erected immediately upon demand by tho Council. 'Tho report was adopted. Clarkson's Amu*. An application was received recently for permission to erect a dwelling, workshop, and motor shed on a neetion at the south-east corner of Clarkson's avenue and Caahel street, the dwelling to stand within 2ft 6in of the boundary line and the workshop and motor shed right ou tho boundary line of Clnrkson's avenue. The By-laws Committee advised the owner that it could not see its way to allow any per- I tion of the buildings to encroach within 10ft of Clnrkson's avenue. On receipt of this advice, tho owner wrote stating that ho intended proceeding with tho buildings immediately, in accordanco with his plan submitted. The committee;reported at last night's meeting of. the Council that it was of opinion that Clarkson's avenue should bo widened on tho eastern side, and recommended the Council to give notice to the applicant that it was the Council's intention to take a strip of land along the whole of his Clarkson's ave\ nue frontage, for a depth of 10 feet, for road-widening purposes.
