MOTOR LICENSES.
A BUSY DAY. Yesterday was the first day of the issue of the new number plates to motorists in Chnstchurch, and from an early hour until closing,time Post Office officials were kept Busy attending to applicants. Seven clerks were employed at the counters, but from to-day nine will be available for duty, as the whole of the plates are to be issued by May 14th. A good deal of time was saved the officials through the foresight the applicants in having their fornix filled in prior to coming to the Post Office. A new licenso for a car costs £2 12s 6d. and'for a motor-cycle 12s 6d. With a view of impressing on them the necessity of exercising care at railway level crossings motorists when being issued with their new number-plates were also given a picture showing a motor-car which has just been struck by a locomotive, and its inmates thrown out. while another car is 6hown beside the line having been pulled up in time to avoid* being 6truck by the engine. The picture, which may be hung up in a garage or attached to a car, contains the warning: "Stop! Look out for the engine."
