THEATRE MANNERS.

TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PRESS." Sir.—ln common, Inm sure, with the majority of your readers, I was very pleased to see the letter appearing over the nom-de-plume of ''Disgusted" in your columns this morning. Your correspondent, however, omitted one tlung in connexion with theatre manners which lie might well have mentioned. I refer to the scant respect paid to the .playing of the .National Anthem at the oad of the programme at Christchurch picture shows. Tho picture-goers do indeed stand up, hut merely, it would appear, because this ia a necessary preliminary to leaving the theatre. A few, perhaps, stand still during- the few bars of ,"God Save the King, , played by the orchestra, but,the majority are far too busy putting on their overcoats, or assisting their lady friends to put on theirs, to show that they realise that the National Anthem is being played. One feels that this must be due merely to thoughtlessness, and not to any disrespect to the Throne, but the hurry and bustle which take place at the end of the performance is scarcely likely to impress visitors from Home or foreign (countries, with, our patriotism. —Yours, etc.' HOPEFUL.
