WHEAT PRICES.
TO THB f.DITOS OT "THS PRESS." Sir, —The statement of costs of milling one ton of wheat, published in a letter signed by Mr Gardner, must be accepted as being correct. I have Ikm?ii assured by men whose Word I respect th.it millers are unable to buy wheat at seven shillings without making a loss. I know that the general l'eelinjr of farmers is that the millers are organising with the object of getting wheat price* as low as possible 1 think it might clear the atmosphere ami lead to a better understanding if Mr Gardner or some other miller would tell ns whv the Australian miller can pay six shillings and six pence per bushel for wheat and sell flour at £l3 10s per ton when the N-ew Zealand miller, who pays 6s 8d for wheat has to charge £lB 10s per ton for flour. I understand that costs are equally high in Australia as here, so what we farmers are anxious to know is where the extra five pound per ton goes to.— Yours, ete., H. M. BITvGLN".
