CHRISTCHURCH DEFENCE CLUB. Tho Christchurch Defence Rifle Club fired a further competition o£ three short range series at Eedcliffs on Saturday afternoon. Trentham camp filled rapidly to-day with Territorials and Cadets intent upon the rifle championship for their respective branches, the shooting for which will begin to-morrow morning. About six hundred are in camp, but tho actual number of competitors is uncertain, though it is certain to exceed that of previous meetings. Colonel Burgess is the chief executive officer, Major Sandle ! Camp Commandant. Major. Henderson Chief Range Officer, and Major Wnllingford Chief Statistical Officer. The weather, which has been very fine, clouded over this afternoon, the heavv banks of vapour carrying threats of rain, but at evening there seemed prospects of the clouds blowing over.
