PERSONAL. (SFZCIAIi TO "the THESS.") GREYMOUTH, March 8. Mr Peter Fraser, M.P. for Wellington Central, is on a visit to Greymouth. Mr and Mrs H. Brietstadt, of Euru, left today on a holiday visit to Dunedin and the Southern Lakes. Messrs E. S. Luttrclt and Thos. Armstrong, Who have been visiting greymouth, returned to-day to Christehutch. Among the passengers who left today for Dnnedin wero Mr and Mrs Eric Lyons and Mr and Mrs B. Winchester. The Bev. J. P. Martin returned from Wellington,bv to-day's express. Mr B. R. Sword, Assistant Divisional Superintendent for Canterbury and Wcstland Railways, is on a visit to Greymouth. Mr and Mrs J. M. Bunt left yesterday by ear for CKristchureh and Dunedin. Mr E. Browne, who has accepted a position in Sydney, Was presented on Saturday by his fellow-workers with a wristlet watch. Mr J. G. L. Hewitt, sen.,, who has been 011 a short visit to Greymouth, returned to Marton to-day. Ex-Inspector W. Cruickshank, formerly in charge of the West Coast Police District, who has been visiting Greymouth, left to-day for Christchurch. Miss Daisy Furness left to-day for Dunedin and Sydney on holiday. Mr and Mrs Arthur Wylde, of Wai"mana, Bay of Plenty, are visiting relatives in Greymouth and Runanga. They leave to-morrow for a trip to the Franz Josef Glacier. The Hon. W. H. Mclutyre and Mr J. H. Harkness left Westport yesterday by car for Nelson to attend the monthly meeting of the Education Board. Senior-Sergeant T. Ryan, who is leaving Westport on transfer to Wellington, was" accorded a civic farewell at the Westport Town Hall this evening. There was a large attendance of citizens present. Senior-Sergeant Ryan and Mrs Ryan were also entertained at a complimentary social at St. Cauice's Clubrooms. Mr George Mallinsou, of Moana, has been Tc-elected unopposed as member of the Westland Land Board. Mrs R. J. Scddon, accompanied by her daughter, Mrs F. Hay, paid a visit to Hokitika during the week-end. Wealth of Nations Mine. Repairs to the upper portion of the Wealth of Nations-mine shaft aro now effected, and the work of placing the cages in position is well in hand. It is expected that operations in the lower levels of the mine will bo resumed at an early date. Minister for Mimes. Advice has been received by Mr W, B. Auld, County Clerk, Reef ton, that the Hon. G. J. Anderson, Minister for Mines, will arrive in Reefton on March 16th, spend the night there, and proceed to Murchison the next morning. Lambs for Addington. A draft of about 900. lambs from South Westland were railed-to Addington to-day. Westport Coal Exports. CoaL exports from Westport for the '(Week-ended Saturday were as follows: Wcsitjport Coal Company, Ltd., coal 0045 tons ..19ewt, local sales 185 tons 7cwt, coke 7 tons, total 9268 tons 6cwt; the Wcstport-Stockton Coal Company shipped -3254 tons lewt.

Railway Transfers. It is understood that the members of the railway workshops staff who are under orders of transfer to other centres received their official notices to-day. Fine Weather. The fine spell of weather experienced last week proved a boon to West Coast farmers, who, after a very trying season, were busily engaged in making hay while the sun shone. Westport Plunket Society. The annual collection in aid of the funds of the Westport Plunket Society was held on Saturday, and resulted in a sum of over £46 being raised.
