BUSH FIRES.
DAMAGE IN AUSTRALIA. (BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION— COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) SYDNEY, January 30. Bush fires are raging in the Cotter River district, tho worst for 20 years. Fears are entertained for the safety of the observatory and pine plantations at Mount Stromlo. In the Jingellie district, near Albury, the fire is raging fiercely along a 15-milo front. • In the Bathurst district CO square miles of grass and fencing have been destroyed. Several buildings and homesteads had a close call. The firp is now practically under control. Little loss of stock is so far reported. •
