TIMARU. I Social and Personal. i Mr and Mrs Guyon Mac Donald (Orari) returned from Dunedin yesterday. Miss Letty Williams returned to Dunedin yesterday, after a short visit to Miss Alice Thomson (Highfield). Mrs A. A. E. Pennefather (Craighead street) left yesterday to spend a holiday in Dunedin. j Mrs E. Inman, who was with Mrs William Raymond (Kile street), returned to Cattle Valley yesterday. Miss Humphries arrived from Gisborne vc3terdav on a visit to Mrs Edgar .rones (Gleniti). Mr and Mrs Arthur Elworthy (Holme Station) went to Christchureh yesterday for the polo matches. Mrs Hayter and Mrs R. T. Brice, who were in Timaru, returned to Eairlie yesterday. Mrs Ewan Dickson (Auckland) arrived on Thursday, on a visit to her parents, Mr and Mrs Phillips (The Point). Mrs S. Andrews (Timaru') and Mrs K. Newton (Melbourne) returned to Timaru from Christchureh yesterday. Tho Weather. Thursday afternoon's rain continued steadily until lato that night, and 35 points were registered in Timaru. Yesterday morning was fine, and in tho afternoon there appeared to bo some prospect of a return to warm weather, but last evening the sky was again threatening. GERALDINE. ; Thursday was observed locally as a general holiday in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the province. A number of picnics were arranged, but in the early part of the day the sky was overcast and rain set in soon after three in the afternoon. Nearer the hills-the rain came on earlier, and most of the picnickers made an early start for home. The ram was heavy for a time, and will do a lot of good, for the surface of the land was quite parched. The Geraldine bowling green was a. centre of interest on Thursday, for the Waimate Bowling Club had sent four rinks to engage the local club in the South Canterbury championship contest. The latter part of tho match was played in heavy rain. Geraldine won the match by 95 to 82, the following being tho scores, with the local players given first:—McKecrmie. Loach, J, Miller, and G. Stock (s) 23, v. Trezke, Bunston. Collet, and Inkster (s) 23: E. Logan, M. G. Williams, W. Hamilton, and J. Campbell (s) 21. v. Wood, Eeilly, Grant, and. Creemer (s) 24. TEMUKA. * A meeting of the Temuka and Geraldine Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on Tuesday afternoon, Mr H. D. Paterson, presiding over a good attendance. The Friesian Association wrote stating that the money given to the Association for priaes wa3 to be used only as sriec-ials for purebred Friesian bull and cow. the winning owners to bs registered members of the Association and financial. The chairman explained that Methven' was in the same boat at Tcmuka owinjr to the Christchureh Ram Fair being fixed for March 25th also. It was unfortunate the dates clashed, but nothing could be done. It was decided to use- the schedules, which had been prepared for ladt year and were not ablo to be used, for the coming show. It was agreed in regard to the light horse classes that the entry for maiden horses be accepted as maidens 'up to date of closing of entries. Mr It. Maddren moved that the winner of the Milford Clip in future be given a miniaturo cup to keep. The matter of wheat prices was brought up, bnt as the price was now fixed, it was decided that a protest from the Association could do no good.
