SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. (SPECIAL TO "THE TRESS.") GKETMOUTH, November 22. Mesdames M. Quinlan and H. McCoiuiell returned yesterday from a holiday spent iu. the North Island. Miss L. Hyams arrived by yesterday's express, and is the guest of Mrs J. Kay. The Rev. M. J. MeKenzie. of Tlimmerton, "Wellington, arrived by yesterday 's express. Mr G. Miller, engineer State Mine?, and Mrs Miller, returned from Christ- ' church yesterday. Mr G. Fraser, president of the Greymouth Watersiders' Union, was met (in Friday evening by the officers of tb(. various unions, and a large number of friends and presented with an illuminated address and gold medallion in recognition of his services to the Labour movement. The Eev. .T. Watt, who has been attending the Presbyterian Assembly at Dnnedin, returned to Eeefton yesterday. Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., left for Christchurch yesterday. Archdeacon York, of Blenheim, arrived in Westport on Friday on a brief visit. Mrs Locker ind Miss H. Looker, of Westport, are visiting the Nelson district. Mr .ind Mrs J. Kilkenny, who have been visiting "Wellington, have returned to" Westport. Mr F. O'Gorman has returned to Westport from Christehureh and Wellington. The condition of Mr James Kilcullen, who was seriously injured in a Ttiororlorry accidcut near llokitikn recently, is still critical, though ;i slight improvement was reported yesterday. Hokitika Gala. The annual gala programme in aid of the funds of the Hokitika Beautifying Society, which was to have taken place in Cass square yesterday, was postponed for the fourth time iu succession on account of rain. Obituary. The death occurred■«at the Westport Hospital, of Mrs Mary Johnstone, an old resident of Burnett's Face. Deceased, who was 82 years of age, was a native of Scotland, and arrived in New Zealand 42 years ago. She leaves a grownup family. The funeral took place at Waimangaroa to-day.
