1 SUNDAY'S DEMONSTRATION. There was a small attendance at the ••'No More Waa- Demonstration," held in Victoria Square yesterday afternoon. Mr H. T. Armstrong, M.P.. who presided, gave a 'brief address in which he emphasised the dire waste 6f human life in the Great War. The Ilev. J. H. tr_- Chappie, speaking on behalf 01 tho Socialist, Sunday School, said that the military spirit hindered the mental, physical, and moral evolution of man. The downtall of Jiome, Egypt, Greece, and Spain had been due to sending tlie finest men to the wars, while the unfit and weaklings remained to hreed at home. What had happened to those countries was happening to France and Great Britain. Other speakers included Messrs R. McFarlane (North Canterbury .LaboutRepresentation Committee), W. T. G. Airey (League of Nations Union), and D. Hercus (Student Christian movement). Mr H. T, Armstrong moved the. following resolution, which he declared carried unanimously :. That this meeting of Christehurch citizens assembled, at the No-More-War Demonstration declares its belief, that permanent peace must ultimately rest — 1. Upon social relations established on such a basis.of justico as shall give to every individual a real equality of freedom to Jive the fullest life possible. '2. Upon the coming into being of an Economic league of Peoples for the purpose of peacefully organising all" the resources of the world for all the peoples of the world. It urges the New Zealand Government: • I. To make practical and continuous efforts to foster among the people of the Dominion the ideas of international co-operation and friendship. 2. To make use of all our powers as a part of the greater British Commonwealth, and a member of the League of Nations to create and extend, whereeyer possible, neutralised and demilitarised zones under the special protection of the League of Nations.. 8. To represent, as occasion allows, that all the members nf this greater British Commonwealth should accept the principle of arbitration in all matters of international and relj upon the Permanent Court of Internal tional Justice under the League of Nations for their settlement. •
