A DELIGHTFUL PARTY.

On Saturday afternoon, in glorious summer weather, Mrs Leonard Clark was hostess at a particularly charming garden party in honour of Miss Stella Murray, the' gifted New Zealand contralto, who is giving a farewell concert in Christchurch this week, and leaves shortly on- her return to London. Even in Christchurch, the Garden City of New Zealand, it is seldom that people have the privilege of Wing entertained in such delightful surroundings as those enjoyed by Mrs Clark's guests on Saturday, for not only was her own garden looking-its best, but her visitors had tho pleasure of enjoying the sylvan beauty of the grounds of "Thorrington," Mrs Charles Clark's residence, kindly lent for the occasion. Through the two gardens, which adjoin, runs a stream, the banks of which are clothed with rhododendrons, now in full bloom —a wonderful sight against the background of fine old ti'ees. By crossing a rustic bridge, the guests gained access to a .stretch of native bush in which every tree, shrub, and fern has been planted by members of Mr Clark's family. Beyond the bush, again, the banks of the stream are white with stately arum lilies. As the visitors leisurely sat on the terrace surrounding the house, they enjoyed a view that is probably unique. J The. more energetic, of the guests enjoyed many closely-contested games of tennis, while olhers preferred clockgolf, for their prowess at which prizes weTC awarded to Miss Bessie Harris and Miss Mary Macdonald. Tea was dispensed indoors, and ices were served at small tables under the trees. Amongst the guests were: Mrs Henry Murrav and Miss Stella Murray, Mrs St. A. Murray, Lady Clifford.
