GARDEN FETE.

,The prelty grounds at Villa Maria, Riccarton, made a beautiful setting for the garden fete held on Saturday in aid of the Upper Riccarton and Hornby parishes. In tho afternoon there was'a good .crowd present -anti the various stalls did brisk business. His Lordship Bishop Brodie, Sir George and Lady Clifford, and Mrs Walter Clifford were amongst visitors present during the afternoon. At night, the fete was continued and the brilliantly-lit grounds presented a, miniature fairyland, in which the business done far • exceeded the most hopeful anticipations of the organisers. Long before the hour of closing, at least one of the stalls had run out of supplies, while the shelves of the others' were almost bare. The fete was conducted in a manner that rer fleeted the greatest credit on the small, band of organisers headed by the Rev. Father T. Hanrahan and the energetic secretary. Mr H. Burt. Competitions, side-shows, bran tubs, surprise packets, and all kinds of entertainment kept visitors buying from the start to the close, with the result that the workers did food business afd were enabled to band over a, very substantial sum for improvements in connexion with the two churches. OBITUARY. The death is announced of Mrs Trolovo, wife of Mr Peter Trolovc, now of New Brighton, but formerly for many' years a resident of- Avonsido. A few months ago Mrs Trolove, who was ailing slightly, went for a health-recruit-ing trip to the North Island, but it was not until after her return, when she entered Lowishr.m Hospital lor surgical treatment, that, the serious nature of her illness was realised. The end, which came yesterday afternoon, was not unexpected. . 'The deceased lady was p, member of the well-known and greatly esteemed Goulter family, of Marlborough, and a niece of. his Grace. Archbishop Redwood, at whose jubilee celebrations in "Wellington last yen.r she was an honoured guest. Her sister is Reverend Mother of the Hiil street Convent, Wellington. Mrs Trolovc, who was of a somewhat retiring nature, was a woman of great «mami and culture. She was a. staunch friend who never failed "in time"of stress or sorrow, and her kindness of heart, hospitality, and unostentatious generosity made her greatly admired and lofvcd amongst a large circle of friends. She is survived by" a sorrowing husband r.,nd adult family, to whom sincere sympathy will be extended. OXFORD W.C.T.U. At the annual meeting of the Oxford W.C.T.U. there was a good attendance of members. . Visitors present were: 1 Mrs Levy, of Wellington, and Mrs Day (Christchurch Union).

The president then vacated the chair, Mrs Day being appointed to preside during the election of officers, which resulted as follows: President, Mrs Ryde; secretary, Mrs C. ,W. Tritt; treasurer, Miss Caverhill; 'vice-president, Mrs Hawke; evengelistic superintendents, Miss Gainsford, Mesdames Robertson, and Tritt; Cradle .Roll,- Mrs Roiand Mrs Cooper; Notable Days, Mrs Jones; T/egal nnd Parliamentary, Mrs Fox: Home Meetings, Mrs ,T. Gainsford nnd Mrs Graham; White Ribbon, Mrs Hawke: Band of Hope. Miss Gainsford; Young people's Branch,. Mrs Comyns; Flower Mission, Mesdames Jamieson nnd- Robertson. Resuming the chair, Mrs Rvde thanked the members for reelecting her as their president, and urzed a more regular attendance at'the meetings in "the"-" coming year.

WEDDINGS. GLAD WELL—RIMMER. A quiet but pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Saviour's Church, Sydenham, recently, when Mary, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs James Rimmer, Sydenham; was married to Clarence Hector, only son of the late Mr Charles Glad well, and grandson of Mr and Mrs Hughes,; Lytteltori, and stepson, of the late Mr John Ferris, Lyttelton. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Canon Mutter. : The bride, who was given away )by her father, wore ivory crepe de. chine and georgette with panel ,of lace. Her handsome veil was embroidered, and sho carried a. shower bouquet of choice flowers and fern. The bride was attended by two bridesmaids,. Rita, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Lucy Hughes,; cousin of the bridegroom. The former wore a sleeveless . frock of nectarine satin, heavily beaded, and . black ]; georgette hat with French flowers tq tone with her frock, and carried a shower bouquet of carnations and pink roses. The second bridesmaid wore blue taffeta, beaded, and a black drooping crinoline hat trimmed with • pale" blue French flowers. Her shower bouquet, was of blue flowers to match her frock. Two little flower girls, Edna Newberrv nnd Joy "White (Lyttelton}. wore pale blue crepe de chine frilled) frocks edged with lace, and pale pink net and wreaths of daisies ■irivtlieir hair.- ■ : The brideeroom was attended by his uncle; Mr James Hughes, as best man, and Mr J. liimmer was groomsman. After the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, only relatives of the bride and bridegroom beinjr present. • The bride traveller! in a smart tunic frock, Hack georgette hat, and furtrimrned wrap.
