Mrs Mirams (Wellington) and Mrs G. H. Mirams (Lower Hutt) are msitin,g Christchurch. Mrs S. Hall has arrived from England to visit her mother, Mrs W. White (Mansfield avenue). Miss Mary Hardy (Napier) arrived in Christchurch yesterday to visit Mrs L. V. Comerford (Leinster road). Mrs J. Mowbray Tripp (Silverton) wUI be a delegate from the Canterbury Branch of the Victoria League to the conference which is being held iti Dwiediu on the 24th, 2oth, and 36th inst. Mrs Alfred Evans (St. Martins) is visiting her daughter, Mrs R. Caughley (Wellington). Mr and Mrs Andrew Watson (Southbridge) have been spending a few days with Mrs Noel Jar vis {New Brighton). Mr Branscombe (Auckland), Mr and Mrs Pilling (Christchurch), Mr J. Holdsworth (Heathcote), Mrs and Miss McLeod (Wellington), Miss Larkman (Wellington), and Mrs Leach (Rangiora) are among the recent arrivals at the New Brighton Cafe. The engagement is announced of Constance Amy, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs' F. H. Courage, Seadown, Amberley, to Geoifrey, only son of Mrs and the late E. W. H. Gray, of Christchurch. Miss Thompson, honorary secretary of the Wellington Branch of the Victoria League, arrived in Qhristoburoh yesterday morning en route for Dunedin to attend the League conference. From Melbourne comes the news of an interesting engagement of two popular members of Sydney's younger set. They are Miss Jose Seatpn, only daughter of Mr and Mrs D. Ussher Seaton, of Eastcourt, Old South Head road, Waverley, to Mr Benjamin Fuller, only son' of Sir Benjamin and Lady Fuller, of Point Piper, Sydney. Mrs W. S. Bean leaves to-night for Wellington, to join her mother ? Mrs R. J. Seddon, with whom she will travel to Sydney by t"he Makura. Mrs Seddon and-'l&rs Bean will go to Melbourne to meet Dr. and Mrs Charles Moricc and their daughters, who are, arriving in Melbourne on the Ormuz early next month.

Mr and Mrs C. Rosse, Mr and Mrs H. S. Liddell, Mr and Mrs Bennett (Auckland) are at tho Clarendon Hotel. Miss Mowbray and Miss Hadfield will bo representatives of the Auckland Branch of the Victoria League at the conference to bo held in Dunedin this week. Among the guests at Warners' Hotel are Mrs Thornlcy, Miss Thompson (Epsom, England), Mr and Mrs T. P. O'Brien (Toowoomba, Quecnsiano), Mrs Cornelius (Wellington). Recent arrivals at the United Service Hotel include Mrs J. Berryman, iMr and Mrs A. E. Odlin (Wellington), Mrs H. R. Clark (Napier), and Mr and Mrs M. Copeland (Auckland). A concert was given by Mrs W. H. Ford, at the Coronation Sanatorium concert hall last night. Contributions were given by the following: Instrumental quartet, Miss Boots, piano, Miss Morrison, 'cello, Mr Davis and Mr Ladbrooke, violins; songs, Mrs Davis, Miss Lomas, Mrs Ford, Mr Bennett, Mr Wilson, and Messrs Hales; recitation, Mr Cannall. Mr Pope (secretary) thanked the party for the visit. The four cars were kindly lent by the Dominion Motors, Mu Archibald (Oxford terrace), Mr Peverill, and Mr Bennett. On Friday afternoon Mrs Randel Usher gave a delightful children's party at her home in Edgeware road to celebrate the seventh birthday of her little daughter, Fay. The two-tier birthday cake, with its seven little candles, was decorated with little pink owls, and a large black kewpie.. After tea the little guests adjourned to the drawing room, gay with large bowls of roses and gaily coloured balloons. A happy evening was spent in vocal and elocutionary items, and a pantomime given by some of the children. Amongst those present were Misses Fay Usher, Wynsome Taklc, Jenn Hounsell, Joan Alleway, Bcttr-. Phyllis, Noon, and Oey Chidgey, Mnrjorie and Barbara Head, Joyce Drayton, Norma Dawson, Masters Tom Usher and Dick Clark.
