M.P.'S SALARIES.

N.S.W. INCREASE. CABLE MESSAGES TO NEW ZEALAND. >.av carl?.--rntss association - lorixioni.* !.\rSTi:4LTA.\- AX'.i X.S. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Ueeeived October -Stli, '.V2."> p.iu.' SYDNEY. October :>. Iu the Assembly Mr Limp said tliAt lie desired to correct liis statement- that only Mr Lysaght refused the increased salary, lie had since learned that Mr Eiiviii also refused. Inferring to his cable to Mr M. J. Savage (New Zealand), which he read, stating that all Parties joined the movement for salaries, he said that that was an absolutely true statement. Members of the Government had been approached by members of the Nationalist Party, requesting an increase and offering to get up a "'round robin" for signature. Certain Nationalists asked the Atlorney-Geucral !o aityly the closure during the debate so ihat they would not have to express their opinions regarding the iiurense. Mr Bavin (Leader of the Opposition), thereupon explained that he- was unawaro that, individual Nationalists had approached the Government to bring about an increase. The Nationalist Tarty had unanimously voted against the inereaso, aud Mr Lang's cable to New Zealand was an incorrect statement. Mr Lang resented Mr Baviu sending a cable to New Zealand. He recalled that a deputation had previously waited ou Sir George Fuller and asked for an increase iu salaries to £875. This proved that the Nationalists wanted it, and all ho could say was that Mr Bavin was tho greatest humbug and hypocrite in tho House. Further discussion disclosed Ihat a members' petition to Mr Lang iu favour of the increase was placed ia the National Party's room, but afterwards was torn down and disappeared. [Exception was taken by tho Leader of the New South Wales Opposition to the action of tho Premier in informing Mr M. J. Savage, Deputy Leader of tho New Zealand Labour Party, that tho incroase in New South Wales Parliamentary salaries was granted with tho full approval of all parties iu the House, and that it was a misconception to believo that Labour introduced tho Bill for its own benefit.]
