At. the annual meeting of the Beck- ( enham Tennis Cub, Mr A. C. Maxwell j: was re-elected president and, iu_recognition of his past services to the club, was elected' at life member. Messrs A. Beauchanip (Wellington), H. Willis CEhinedin), H. Thomas (Sydney), and C. Oliver (Oulvordeu) are amoiig the guests at the Clarendon Hotel. I- At yesterday's meeting of the Waimakariri River Trust, a vote of condolence was carried with the widow of tho late Mr B. B. Couston, consulting engineer to the Trust, who met his death in an accident on Tuesday. Mr H. Hamilton, assistant at the Dominion Museum, Wellington, has left on a visit to the Hen and Chickens Islands; and, as his itinerary is a somewhat lengthy one, he is not expected to return to Wellington till "about tho end of the month. Mr J. W. Collins, secretary to the Department of Industries and Commerce, last evening received the congratulations of the executive of the Canterbury Industrial Association on his appointment as Commissioner of the New Zealand and South Seas International Exhibition.
