THE EXHIBITION.

INDUSTRIES COURT. MICH UNALLOTTED SPACE. j The executive of the Industrial j Association of Canterbury decided last I night to vote ill 00 towards the Soconj dary Industries Court and £."O towards j the Canterbury Provincial Court. This J was di..:ie to foster the smaller indus- | trie-, which could j U .; afford to buy | spa.-e in the usual manner, bus which I should, in the interests of the community, be represented, j The exe.-utive of the Association met j last evening. There were present: Messrs L". Marriner i chairman >. W. .1 Jeiikin. S. ,l;; ( -ka-..n. J. Woolf. ' H.' Holism!. H. Burs:i-,. p. Colquhoun. H "Wliis. R. H. Wilson. J. A. Frostick \ W. Heaven. H. R. Best. li. H. Webb \ M. West, H. Bradley, S. ]{. MaddreY and F. L. Hutchinson. ' The chairman said "that. roiifhlv, "K'.OoO f ec t of space-remained unallotted in the Secondary Industries' Court at the New Zealand and South s.eas Inhibition., Fach of the four industrial associations were to be asked futile Goverpment to guarantee to take space, and there would be, roughlv, sixteen ten by ten feet spaces for "each association. He suggested that an effort should be made to encourage some of the small manufacturers 1o exhibit in these spaces. The Government would give a subsidy,' and the Association would also subsidise the cost. These smaller manufacturers would not be asked a fixed fee, but would be required to give a donation towards the cost. Every effort should be made to secure the success of this Secondary Industries Court. Certain members, while agreeing that everything possible should be done to foster and encourage the secondarv industries, many of which were in a lowfinancial condition, said that care should be taken to ensure that no industrial firms who could afford to take space in the usiml way should applv for allotments under this scheme. Mr 11. Holland suggested a vote of £L3O. Assistance for Provincial Court. A deputation, comprising Messrs W. Machui, A. McKollar and W. T. Mulcock, representing the Canterbury Court Committee, waited on the executive and asked that the Association should help the Provincial Court financially in addition' to the (Secondary Industries Court. Mr Machin suggested a vote of £2OO. Mr McKellar explained that the committee had had to make promises without having the cash in hand, and probably more money wpuld be required. In answer to a question, Mr Machin said tho exhibit of frozen meat had cost considerably more than had been expected, but it would bo a very fine exhibit and well worth the additional cost. When the deputation had retired, the secretary (Mr Denys Hoaxe) said that if the Association voted £1.30 to the Secondary Industries Conrt and £2OO to the Provincial Court, they would run away with practically one year's income. To give that sum it would be necessary either to secure an overdraft or to take money from some of the Association 's investments. Mr W. J. .Tonkin said he was not in favour of disturbing the Association's "nest eggs." He considered it would be preferable to secure :i bank overdraft if it. was necessary. He moved that £IOO be voted towards the Secon-' dary Industries Court and £oo towards the Provincial Court. The motion was seconded. Mr H. Willis: We should be just before wo are generous. I oppose that motion, because I consider that we arc not; justified in voting this money towards the Provincial Court. The motion was carried, Mr "Willis dissenting. The president gave a brief report of the business transacted at the Annual Conference of the Industrial Corporation of New Zealand, which was held at Wellington on September 23rd and 24th. A vote of thanks to tho delegates, Messrs Marriner, Willis, and Woolf, •was carried.
