Hannaii. j rati'jik t 'rannitch, license? of the ftoyal Hotel, pleaded guilty to exposing liquor for saie after hours on September loth. He was convicted and fined £ .1? A charge of selling liquor during prohibited hours was withdrawn. £._ £ Johh T. Cooper 'pleaded guilty to having renewed a building without having obtained a permit" under the Borough by-laws. lie was fined £1 and costs. Another four informations in respect of the same matter were withdrawn. The Magistrate inspected the building and decided that an offence of a technical nature only had been committed. Mr J. W. Haunan appeared for the Borough Council, and Mr YV. J. Joyce for defendant. Lawrence Foster Martin, of Kotuku, was charged with driving a motor-ear along Tainui street, on September ,3th at a speed dangerous fn the public. Defendant was convicted and fined 10s and costs. Technical Exhibition. The annual exhibition of work bv the Technical College pupils was opened to-day in glorious weather. Prior to the opening a procession of pupils in fancy dress was formed at the railway station, and traversed the main streets of the town. 'Flic procession was In* far the best effort attempted by the pupils and teachers. One of the most attractive displays was a representation of Spring by si bevy of girls, whilst many of the more humorous characterisations evoked much merriment. The school and grounds were effectively decorated for the oceasicn. A very pronounced improvement was noticeable in the pupils' work compared with that of previous years. The -exhibits included woodwork, plumbing, domestic science, commercial, and engineering work. In the laboratory an. interesting and instructive exhibit had been prepared of the by-products of coal-tar. Election Campaign. N - Mr T. L\ Y. Seddon met the electors at Moana last evening. Mr Noel Peat presided. The Nationalist candidate spoke on general lines, and had a splendid reception. A vote of thanks was carried unanimously. Mr Seddon speaks this evening at Tc Kinga, and to-morrow at Oti.ra. Mr J. O'Brien addressed a meeting at Aritika and Arnold yesterday, and at Kokiri last evening. The meetings were well attended, and the candidate was accorded votes of thanks and confidence, Mr O'Brien delivers addresses to-morrow at Rum and Te Kinga. Loss of Stock. Heavy losses of cattle, sheep, and lambs are reported from the Marai district as a result of the recent snowstorm. Two weeks elapsed before the snow thawed. The mortality among" lambs was especially heavy. Personal. The funeral of the late Mr Douglas Dennison, of the Customs Department, Wellington, who died at Wellington, will take plae/ to-morrow at Hokitika. The death took* place at Hokitika this morning of Mr Thomas James Heenan. Deceased was a native of Victoria, and Gl years of age, sixty of which had been spent in Hokitika. He is survived by a widow and family of two sons, both cf Wellington, and one daughter, Miss Myra Heenan. Mrs J. W. Breeze, senior, is a sister. Mr and Mrs \V. Heel, of Christchurch, are visiting Greymouth. Mr. W. Graham, chief mail clerk, leaves to-morrow for Christchurch on annual leave. Tho death took place at Carter's Junction yesterday of Mrs Fa yen, wife of Mr Norman. Faycn. Deceased was thirty-five years of age, and a native of the Buller district, being a daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Ferguson, of Carter's Junction. Mr John Morgan, a very old resident of the Buller district, died at Grauity yesterday. He leaves a and adult family. The Hon. W. H. McTntyre returned to Wcstport from Nelson yesterday. Mr Mclntyrc has been reappointed as the Education Board's representative on tho Board of Managers of the Westport Technical High School.
