MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting o; the committees promoting trio Labour Day Gala was held last night, Mill. K. C. McElrea presiding. Tho chairman said tho committee's application to the Railway Department that the fAcond-elass return fare from Cbristehurtm on Labour Day be reduced to 5s 3d had not been granted. Mr Pawson, tho business agent o: the Railway Department, was in attendance to hear the committee's views. ' Mr Pawson said the "Department was always willing io meet requests for excursion trains, but it had to investigate the possibility*of making them pay. The Department .would require a guarantee of an increase on laßt year's figures (190 i. It was decided to recommend the Department to run tiie excursion trains at oneday excursion rates. The offer of Mesdames Keeley and McIver to provide luncheon and afternoon tea, on Gala Day*was accepted. The Sports Committee reported that the services of Mr Kilgour (Tiniani) Jiad been obtained to judge the Highland dancing. The chairman said Mr v\\ S. 1 Kerr had agreed to organise the surprise packets, and the committee was authorised to spend up to £3O. It was reported that £-23 Ss had been subscribed by local business firms'for prizes for the procession. Mr G.""Hillier was appointed vice-president of the General Committee.
