GENEVA, February 14,
An Alpine vendetta, said to have originated 238 years ago, culminated in the trial of a farmer named Jauch, who is accused of murdering another farmer named Aschwanden.
It was stated in evidence that Jauch had been stalking his enemy for years before he found an opportunity to sKoot him in the woods.
Jauch, on the other hand, declared that he had acted solely in self-defence. He said: "Neither of us ever left our homes without rifles. I drew first, so where is the crime?"
The jury returned a verdict Of mur dcr under extenuating circumstantes. A sentence of twenty years' imprison* ment Was. imposed.
