ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL MEETING
The attendances at the evening sports meetings at the English. Park Stadium continue to be gratifying to the promoters, and at the meeting on Satiirday night there was the usual large crowd. Some good racing was witnessed, which raised tho spectators to enthusiasm on several occasions. There wiis x one exception, however/this being the final of the scratch race of half a mile. In the first lap the * comnetitprs fairly crawled round the track and although thoy. finished .strongly, the impression they left was not a favourable one. ■'■ Speaking to a "Press" representative regarding the arrangements at the Stadium, Mr F, Carey, of Christehurch, who rocontlv competed in races on tho Melbourne inhibition.Oval, stated that thfc local groun,d was bv|f ar the better, not;only so far as tho track v was concerned, but also in respect qf the lighting, which is 110,000 candle-power on the track alone, and in respect of the aealjing aitopraniodatian. 'Xle spectators at Melbourne had to stand .to seo the races, owing to the ground not being 'stadiuMmed," in consequence- ot which they did not enjoy the same degree of comfort as thoso attending English Park. Mv Carey states that the grogramme is better arranged in hxistchurch than in Melbourne, and tho nieeUnga arc-under .better control. .. Following were the results: — :
