CHILDREN'S PICTURE THEATRE.

CITY COUNCIL IGNORES SUGGESTION. At last night's meeting of the Canterbury School Committees' Association, the question of a children's picture theatre was raised by a letter from Mr J. C. Prudhoo, of Casbmcve Hills. A suggestion regarding this matter had made to the City Council on July Blh, 1923. and the Association had not. so far, bepn favoured by a, reply.

A resolution had been carried that a copy of the report should be 'forwarded to the Ohristchufoh City Council, and that I'he Counoil bo recommended to have a'now hiill erected in Manchester, street, to be used for concert purposes «nd also as a children's piptuve theatre. The 1 Council should make special arrangements with tho Education Department, for showing approved films, and (1. competent lecturer should bo appointed. According to tho newspaper report, the letter from the Association and copies of the report and resolution had come before the Council on July 9th, 19'?3. and the letter was referred to the Offices Committee. ' No reply had ever icached the School Committees' Associatiop, as far as 110 waa. aware, nor did the Offices Committee appear to have reported to the Council. "When the question of tho Concert Hall had been discussed. nothing had appeared in the newspaper accounts about designing it as suggested. The Association was entitled to the courtesy of information from tho Council as to the result of its recommendation. He suggested that enquiries (should bo made, and that efforts should bo mado to induco the Council to have the Conceit Hall also designed for purposes of a children's picture theatre. ;

The chairman, Mr H. Chapman, said that it was only their due that, they should have a reply from the Council, and it was decided to draw their attention to tho matter again.
