MOTOR TRADE.

ANNUAL CONVENTION. The annual convention of the NewZealand Motor Trade Association was continued yesterday, Mr P. E. Stainton presiding. The following additional officers wero elected': —Vice-pre-sidents, Messrs G. M. White (Auckland) and A. Russell (Southland); Advisory Committee, aiessrs J. Black, H. C. Jones, J. 11. Perry, P. Stainton, Geo. Dash, W. S. Wilson, D. Crozier. A deputation the Canterbury Cyolo Dealers' Association, consisting of Messrs C. Bell and W. Kiddey, waited on the convention, with reference to trado matters, proceedings being taken in committee. _ A motion was carried that tho principle of headlight adjustment enforced in California bo adopted in tbo Dominion, and that tho Association bring the matter before the local authorities. jlr G. H. -Scott moved tho following remit from the Wholesalers' Association : "That this Conference, representative of the wholesale and retail motor trado interests of tho Dominion, urges all branches and members to assist in eveiy way possiblo tho motoring public and local authorities in movements relating to better roads, traffic regulations, legislation affecting motor users." % air G. 11. Scott said that tho remit aimed at stimulating the interest of •local bodies in the roads of their own districts. Tho Government, ho said, counted tho value of everything; m terms of votes, and the members of the convention should get into touch with tiio voters of their districts. It appeared, from utterances of tho Mayors o£ Auckland a»d Christchureh, that che interests of the cities wero in conflict with those of tho country, and it behoved members to dn their best to make for a better feeling. They should ally themselves with the country to seo that the interests of tlio country were not allowed to be overlooked! It wa;s clear that the cities wore out to get as much as they could to relieve the taxation of tho ctizens. The organisation in all the big centres was good, and he appealed to those present to ta.ko as keen interest in tho country as was done in the cities. , ilr £>. Wilson said that there was no doubt that the country organisations could assist tho cities when it camo to dealing with improved roading conditions. If tho matter was taken up seriously, it would mean that thero was a chance of not having such heavy taxation as was made on them at present being inflicted in the future. air L. A. Edwards said that it was imperative that there should be good roads throughout the Dominion. Such roads were of more importance to-day than the roads built by the Romans to meet tho demands of their time. The greater tho improvement in the roads, the greater the number of ears there would be to use them, and consequently tho more it would bo in the interests of the motor trado. The remit was carried. Last evening an annual reunion social and dance was held in the Art: Gallery, and to-day there will be a motor run to Ashley Gorge. PROSPEROUS OWNERS OP WHITE TRUCKS. A motor vehicle can be judged by tho status and stability of the firms which operate them. The majority of the wealthiest and most powerful operators of motor transport in the world vee White Trucks exclusively. Ask U3 for a free copy of the White Truck Roll Call, which proves this fact beyond all argument.. In New Zealand, the latest name to be added to a long list of prosperous "White" owners is that of Newman Bros.—probably the bestknown motor service in the Dominion—who now own a whole fleet of White Vehicles.
