DEPUTATION TO MOTOR TRADERS. A deputation from the South Island Motor Union, consisting of Messrs J. S. Hawkcs and F. W. Johnston, waited on yesterday's convention of tho New Zealand Motor Trade Association with reference to the practice followed by some firms of disfiguring tho countryside by the use of advertisements. Mr Johnston said that he wished to enlist the sympathies of tho convention in the direction of advertising in the rural districts in an ethical manner. It was not desired that advertising should bo restricted, but that as far as possible tho beauty spots of tho Dominion should not be disfigured bv advertising hoardings. This same class of people ; had since sounded a note of warning I in respect to tho matter. j Mr Hawkcs said that the matter had been taken up with considerable success in Britain, and it was hopedi similar results would bo obtained) in tho j Dominion. ' Mr L- A. Edwards assured the deputation that its views had tho sympathy of the convention. He stated that tho South Island Motor .Union and other similar bodies were awake to the necessity of tha matter. "The chairman, Mr P. E. Stainton, said that at tho last meeting of tho Council a motion had been passed approving of every assistance being given in the direction of preventing such advertisements being made in rural districts and beauty spots of the Dominion. This would show that the 1 Motor Trade Association intended to j use tlieir test endeavours in the direction indicated 1 .
