The drainage rate for Styx was the subject of reference by Mr Spencer at last night's meeting of the Waimam Countv Council. Ho said that it was intended tiiat there should be a credit balance of £3OO at the end of the year. The people of Styx- were paying too much in'rates and the Council should reconsider the rates of tins riding, as m the speaker's opinion it would lie better to have a balance of £op instead of .£"3(50 The chairman. Mr J>. W. Ha.'.ke. defended the rat* stating that a credit balance would enable the ratepavers to have any' special work done Pf thev so wishod. The matter was then allowed to drop.
