OHOKA AND EYRETON SPORTS CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. On Monday evening the annual meeting of the Ohoka and Eyreton Sports Club was attended by sixty residents, of Ohoka- and the surrounding district. In the absence of. the president, Mr Geo. Begg, Mr A. W. Newton was voted to the chair.
The secretary, Mr C. L. Dalzeli, read the report and balance-sheet, wh'.ch, showed a •credit of £l4, though the year's operations, had reaulted in a Ipsa of £7, largely owing to the fact that New Year's Day, on whioh day the annual sports' were held, was wet.

The new president then declared the business part of the meeting over, und .nv.ted all present to remain to the smoke cJiKHiS, which was to- be the concluding item of thft ; gathering.. After, his Majesty's health had been drunk, the president proposed the health of the ietiring odicer3, coupling with the toast tho names of Messrs Dalzeli, Bailey, and Duniop without whose strenuous eftt-i-ts, he said, thero would have been no track on which to hold tue sports. He suggested to the incoming committee that they should s»i before themselves a higher standard thao. merely running, cycle rac«3,'and sporte meet ings, and out.ined a policy by whicli tiiey might,bring the young m'.n of the district together in social evenings and with cow sional debates of an educational nature during the winter evenings. Mr Dalzeli, in returning thanks for the retiring officers, said that, though he and the gentlemen mentioned by the presidmt had done the hard work, yet it was .vli Newton's laying off the the track that largely conduced to its being, as visiting cycli'.te I had said, the best cycle t.aci in Canterbury. The toast of "The Sports Club" was pi-..- ! posed by Mr Brown and responded to by Mr I Pearce; and that of the "Ohoka and Eyre- | ton Domiin Board,'' was proposed by Mr I Cooke and responded to by Mr Bennett, who e-aid that the Domain Board was anxious to | do justice to all p.uts of the district, but specially frit inclined to help those who helped themselves. . "Kindred was proposed by Mr C. L Dalzeli and responded to by Mr V. Lvns'-ev. capt; ; n rt th-> Cricket Club, by Mr W. Dalzeli on beha'f of the Rifle Cub and Mr Mevers brhnlf of tho S-porfs Club. Tlie toast of "The Ladies" was felicitously proposed ey Mr Skinner and responded to by Mr L. 1. After a very hearty vote of fhanka to the musicians and the sing'ng of "Au'.d Lang Syne," a concert which all present hoped might be tho forerunner of many more was brought to a close.
