VALEDICTORY.
PRESENTATIONS TO MR AND MRS W. J. HOPKINS. Mr and Mrs W. J. Hopkins will leave for Vancouver by the Niagara from Auckland to-morrow, and they expect to return to Christchurch in October nest. About twenty-five persons cssembled at tho residence of Mr and Mrs Hopkins on Wednesday evening last and wero entertained at supper. During tho proceedings Mr W. H. Cheeseman, on behalf of the donors, presented Mr Hopkins with a handsome pigskin suitcase, containing a complement of razors, writing-case,, hair and clothes brushes, and silver and cut-glass fittings —tho whole forming a very lino gift. Mrs Hopkins was presented with a complete set of brushes, and mirror set in tortoise-shell, and silver. Mr and Mrs Hopkins were wished a pleasant voyage and safe return, and Mr Hopkins suitably and feelingly replied. On Thursday afternoon the members of tho New Brighton Trotting Committee assembled to drink tho health and safe return of Mr Hopkins, who has been a member of the committee, and at one time president/ of tho club. Eulogistic remarks wero mad© by the president, and Mr Hopkins, in reply, thanked the committee for such kindly honours.
During the week several persons presented Mr Hopkins with various tirticles, including a gold cigarette holder, and a leather wallet case filled' with sovereigns.
To-day the New Zealand Trotting Association will honour Mr Hopkins with a presentation, and the gii'fe will bo presented by tho Auckland Trotting Clwb at the Auckland 'Trotting Club's rooms.
