CASUALTIES.

An inquest was held at the Chrisfcchureli Hospital yesterday by Mr H. 1". Widdowson, Coroner, on tho body of Joseph Gallagher, who died ill the Hospital on Saturday. After medical evidence and evidenco of identification had been heard, the inquest was adjourned in order to allow a post-mortem examination to be held.

Mrs Anita Gunderson, a widow, aged 61 years, residing ■ at 104 Colombo street, died at the Lewisham Hospital on Friday, while under an anesthetic. Formal evidence of identification was taken by Mr Wyvern Wilson, Coroner, at an inquest held on Saturday. The inquest was postponed in order to allow a post-mortem examination to be made.

Mr J. Grant, aged 77 years, died suddenly at his residence, 2 Cobham street, Spreydon, on Saturday. Death was due to heart trouble.

At an inquest concerning tho death of Ernest George Cass, whose body was found in the Tarurehu River, a verdict was returned that deceased was accidentally drowned by being knocked off a. lighter by willow trees. The evidenco showed that three lighters drawn by a launch were returning to Nelson Bros, works after loading meat in the liner Waipara. Cass, who was on the first lighter, was knocked over by overhanging willows. A man on the second lighter saw Cass in tho water and threw him a lifebuoy, but the second lighter went over Cass. The launch was twenty feet ahead of the first lighter and could not hear ue calls, and did not know of the occurrence till the works were reached, half a mile away. The men then returned, but found Cass's body being removed from the river.
