AKAROA. The last meeting of tile present p«Tßonnel of the AJtaroa Borough Council was iheld on Tuesday evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr ■k * k. Davis), and Crs. 11. W. Wilkins, C. Stewart, H. J. Bainham, X. Wilson, and W. Pool. Tlio Alcaroa Tennis Club wrote asking for a reduction of the claim of £lO for work done by the Council's staff on and -ibout tllo courts. The Mayor stated that the club, in .common with other sports clubs in the town, liaci undertaken to diafray tilie greater ot the exponso of the upkeep of tlio grounds. On Cr. Stewart's motion, it was resolved that no reduction cou.d be madfc. The 'Wairewa County Council invited the Mayor and councillors to attend the ceremony of laying iho foundation stone of the Wairewa war memorial'. The Mayor C'r. Wilkins, on Lehalf of tho Financ* Committee, submitted a report dealing with certain phases of the financial position of tho Jouncil. After eomn discussion, a decision on the matter was deferred, pending the receipt of eijndiiy information from the Bank /. New Zealand, dealing with one or two points. The financial report showed receipts £BO 8s od, Peninsula Patriotic Society's loan dr. £SOO, Peninsula War Memorial S-ooiety's loan ir. £3OO. antecedent liability £1199 14s 4d, borough improvemennt loan account or. £l7l 16s (VI, district fund loan account cr. £7i 13s Oct, fire prevention loan account cr. £2O lls !)d, accounts for payment £lO7 -19s 9d. The report' was adopted. Cr.'Barnham '.reported that th<> Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board had accepted a tender for the erection of the new lceal hospital in wood, the pr'ce being £6404. Councillors expressed gratification that the matter had received such prompt attention. On the motion of Cr. Stewart, the thanks of the Council woro accorded Superintendent Carter, of' Surnnw, for the practical interest he had shown while the borough's nejw motor fir<--fighteo: was being put together. This boing the last meeting of the. present Council, tho Maivor tlmnked councillors for their services on behalf of tho borough, and for their support during his few months' tenure of tb© chair.
