monthly meeting. The Canterbury Education Board met yesterday. Present—Meesra G. W. Araitage (chairman), W. P. Spencer, T. Hughea, C. S. Thompson, E. E. Andrews, J. G. Gow, Maze, ®nd H. J. Bignell. The Appointments Committee's report contained (Humorous announcement* of appointments and resignations, and went on to nay, in connexion with claaa libraries capitation, that a letter had been receivod from the Department, notifying that the question of supply of continuous readers -would be taken ur> next year, and that for the present it had been 'decided to allow a cavitation pavmefli of 2d for each child in average attendance (in order to allow the Board to purchase supply of supplementary readers). It had been agreed to refer the matter to the- inspectors, for a> recommendation. The committee recommended that the echeme of Mr D. D. McDonald manager of the Educational Picture Company of New Zealand, regarding pictorial education for school ohildren, should bo placed before the Headmasters' Association. A letter had been reoeived from the Department stating that the appointment of a. onev-year Training College student in substitution for a pupil-teacher would be for one year onij. The report was adopted. The Buildings Committee reported l that the Department hadl advised the grant of an additional £BO for the purchase of land at Cashmere. The Department had also stated, that consideration of the question of rebuilding the iChriatchuroh West School must stand over for a few months. The Department had advised a grant of £1492 for rebuilding at Prebbleton, and had agreed to pay subsidy ■up to £3O towards the ooat of additional land at Prebbleton. The senior inspector had reported that the attendance did not warrant an application for addition® to the Somerfieldi School. The report was adopted.
