Tho engineer reported that the works for the month ending November 30th included the metalling of Marquet's corner, in connexion with which arrangements had been made to roll the thoroughfare; the spreading of ashes on the footpath in Clark street; the tarring and sanding of the main road footpaths at Hedcliffs; the removal of all sand from the ladies' bathing shed, and Ms replacement with clean eand; It was agreed to grant, the usual facilities to the Gala Committee on Gala Day. The Canterbury Automobile Association wrote offering to supply siens warning motorists nea r the School for the Deaf, and asked the Council to erect same. The request was agreed to. A vote of thanks was passed to a number of residents who had sent in donations towards the Memorial Tablet. On the motion of Cr. Black, seconded by Cr. Whitfield, it was decided: —"That the resolution dated October 6th, 1919, authorising the payment of a subsidy of £ for £ on voluntary-subscriptions to the Sumner WaT Memorial be rescinded." ' IPIW BBIOHTON. The New Brighton Borough Council met last night. Present—The Mayor (Mr J. Gamble), Crs. F. Muirson, F. Sincock, JBuxton, J. Scott, A. Hulme, E. A. Langford, F. Ward, and W. Bellamy. It was decided to-request tho owner of * property in Park road to comply with the requirement* of tho Department of Health as regards drainage. A letter from a resident of Fowke etreet, enquiring as to the possibility of channelling being done in the street was referred to the Works Committee. < Mr A. P. de la Oour advised that tenders for the draining of • the Fleming street extension had been called. ' . , Correspondence from Messrs Frederick Hail and GV La/wrence, dealing with the building by-lawe was referred to tho By-lawß CornMr G. L. Cull, chairman directors of tihe Joylandi Theatre Company, wrote applying for permit to use the theatre as a place of ' publio entertainment.—Bef erred to a committee consisting of Cre. A deputation, consisting of Mr Claude Cooper, jenresenting the Surf Club, and Mr Farr, representing the Bawling Club, waited upon the Council with a view to obtaining permission to hold a oarnival on the beach on January lith, the profits resulting td 4 be divided equally between the two orgamsa-iiens.—-Permission was granted. The "Works Committee lecomonended that fifty feet of channel and footpath foe put in in Tonk street, - Mr Shaw to pay half the cost; that the light of control of .the fore-, shore-be granted the j.>orth Beach Surf Club for January 2nd; that the officers ap-. pointed! by the Municipal Band he approved; that an offer be made to the-Lyttelton Harbour Board for the purchase of the jetty on Richmond terrace; that Cr. Langford be thanked for his plan of beach improvements, and tbat.it be considered at the next meetingl of the comimittee.—Adopted.
