A SENSATIONAL INCIDENT.

DOCTOR INJURED BY BURGLAR. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TJSLWWAM.) WELLINGTON, November 29. A sensational incident occurred tonight at the surgery of Dr. P. F. Mo» Evedy, a well-known medical man. He was engaged in his surgery at the bot* torn of his garden, and left it temporarily to visit the house before meeting Dr. H. Gilmer, with whom he had to hold a consultation. Passing close to the garage he thought he heard the door close. Immediately he flung open one N of the garage doors, and received a stunning Blow on the head from a sharp instrument, which _ smashed through his bowler hat, and inflicted a deep wound on the left temple. Retaining his senses, the doctor, who is a well-known athlete, endeavoured to close with his assailant, who evidently wore rubber shoes from his soundless movements, but the man escaped. The doctor pursued him, but the intruder scaled tne fence, and then coolly sauntered up the road, passing the doctor, who had rushed to the main gate of the grounds. Dr. McEvedy shouted to passers-by who approached the ; unknown man, but the latter darted away, Finding his passage obstructed by a road under repair and a ro P e stretched across it, the man dropped a briofbag, vaulted over, tho obstructions, and made gcod his escape, The police were then summoned.

In the bag was found a. five Tchambered Smith and Webtey revolver, fully loaded and some stamps, evidently taken from the surgery. Dr. McEyedy's wound, .though painful, is not of a serious nature. He describes the man, whom he saw distinctly, as of medium size and build, wearing a light fawn raincoat, low collar, and black tie.
