TEKAPO SCHEME.

SOUTH CANTERBURY'S AIMS. Following on the visit to Tekapo by some members of the' South Canterbury Development League, accompanied by 'Mr A. G, Henderson, president of the Canterbury Progress League, to inspect the Bite of the proposed works for thd hydro-electrio system for South Canterbury, a meeting of the League was held at Timaru yesterday morning. Mr J. Anstey, chairman of the South Canterbury Development League, presided, and among the Representative attendance were members of the Geraldine, Temuka, Timaru, and Waimate Borough Councils, and the South Canterbury County Councils. . The chairman said that Mr Bovjng s suggestions for tho hydro-electrie scheme could not be discussed until his report was completed. The South Canterbury Development League was much indebted to Mr Henderson and Mr 0. S. Thompson for the interest they had taken, on behalf of the Canterbury Progress League, in inspecting the site' of the proposed Tekapo " hydro-electric scheme. Mr Henderson, speaking as president of th 6 Canterbury Progress League, said he was not prepared to discuss the proposed Tekapo scheme, as he only had a look at the locality, and would not be conversant* with the main outlines till the details wore presented. A meeting of his. League would be hold on December 7th, and he would then report to, it on the inspection made, and he hoped that Mr Boving's figures would be available by then. The question was really one of price, and if South Canterbury could get electric power cheaper from Coleridge than from the proposed Tekapo scheme, they should throw in their weight towards the completion of the Coleridge scheme, or on the other hand, if the Tekapo supply would be cheaper, they. should agitate to go ahead. , In either ease there was strong reason for co-operation between North and South Canterbury. The time was now opportune for all little differences to be sunk, and all to aim at a united Canterbury. Mr Henderson sketched the organisation of the Canterbury Progress League, and w»id that if the South Canterbury Development League wished to be organised in a similar way, the parent body would lend every assistance possible. A vote of thanks was passed to the president of the Canterbury Progress League.
