A WELLINGTON TRAGEDY.
SUSPECTED MURDER AND SUICIDE. (tkess association teuobaus.) WELLINGTON November 29. About 5.25 o'clock this evening some little children were playing ball and climbing a big elm tree in front of the ground# of a large empty house in Abel Smith street. One of them glanced towards the side of the house, and a horrible sight mot it« gaee. The child ran away eoreaming, and was followed by tha others. The youngster told bystanders of what he had seen and an alarm waa quickly given. Ti.c police wert> soon on the spot. Lying almost side by side on the lawn were a young man aiid a young woman, both dead. .Near the bodies wero a hatchet, such as is used by firemen, stained with blood, and a bottle supposed to contain poison.
Ihe unfortunate woman was identified as Jean Foreman, formerly Bews, employed as a clerk in an advertising agency, and the mar. as Edward Alfred Foreman, a young but dangerous criminal, who waa released from gaol a year ago after serving a sentence of several years for jeweJ robberies. While in prison, prisoner's wife divorced him, and af tor. his release ho married his present wife, an attractive girl who had always boem fond of him. For some time Foreman had been working on the wharf. It is said he was very jealous of the woman, and lately thore had been several quarrels. The girl, who said ho had ill-treated her, was about to sue for a separation order.
It is presumed that Foreman met his wife by appointment, enticed her to the lawn of the unoccupied residence, killed her with the weapon, and then took poison.
