EXTRAORDINARY HAPPENING IN WELLINGTON. SEVERAL PEOPLE INJURED. (PKESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAMS.) WELLINGTON", December 15. Just ns people were coming out of tho theatres to-night, a motor-car, with a solitary occupant, dashed through tho city streets, tho man at tho wheel shouting at tho top of his voice. "Get out of my way." Eye-witnesses,, say that the car appeared to b<? quite out ,of control. Travelling at a very high speed, the car negotinted several corners safely, hut on reaching tho junction of Manners and Cuba streets it dashed through a crowd of poople waiting for trams, and collided with a standing tram. The car knocked down a woman who was about to enter a tram, struck others, and then, with a child locked under its Avheels, slid right across to the other sido of the road, where it struck a number of pedestrians. A scene of great confusion followed, and exact information' about those injured is at present (11.40 p.m.) no, available. It is reported that five persons linvo already hoon taken to the hospital. This number includes the man who is paid to be the driver of the car. He is in a critical state. Ono woman suffered a compound fracture of a leg, another had an anklebroken, and many others received minor injuries.
