Dr. Erwin, who presided, paid a "high tribute to the many excellent qualities of the late Mr Rutherford .and remnrKed that it was a legacy of £o. OJ from Mr Rutherford that had enabled the Board of Governors to acquire the present college grounds and buildings. The portrait bore the inscription: "Duncan Rutherford, through whose beneficent legacy the Board was enabled, to purchase tho college property. Speaking at the annual prize-giving at Christ's Collego .last night, tflie act-ing-headmaster, Mr A. E. Flower, referred to two events of importanco that had occurred lately in the secondary petrols of the Dominion, the retirement of Mr J. P. Firth, headmaster of Wellington College, and of Mr C. E. BevanBrown. headmaster of the Christchurch, Boys' High School. Mr Flower said that Mr Firth had been formerly a master at Christ's Coliege, and tho speaker had been under him for soma years. Mr Bevan-Brown was an old friend of many years' standing. -Tho f/-l'O'>lq affected had been extremely fortunate in having had such men at their head, and all wished tho retiring principals many haiipy years in which, to enjoy their leisure.
