OBITUARY.
There passed away at Dunedin on Wednesday mornin<r the oldest emplovee of the Union Steam Ship Company, Mr John Abbott. Mr Abbott was close on 80 years of age, and had been wit-h tho company since their inception, occupying the position of head storeiuan. A Press Association message from Auckland announces the death of Sir Robert Lockhart, Bart.. Mr Charles Halstead, the well-known, veterinary surgeon, died at his residence, Ponsonby, Auckland, on Moudav. at the ago of 45 years. For tbo past two yeJlrs deceased had not enjoyed very good health. Deceased, who was the eldest son of tho late •'Mr E. D. Halstead, leaves a widow and one daughter. Deaths from iinenmonie influenza aro being reported with gainful frequency from Auckland. Among the rtcent- victims is Mr H. G. McLeod, registration clerk in tho Auckland Post Office, who was for some years on tho staff of tho Wellington office. The late Mr McLeod, who was a married man, was for 23 years in tho service of the Post and Telegraph Department, and w as well respected as a conscientious officer with a nigh senso of duty.
