AMURJ. At tho monthly meeting of tho Amuri County Council there were present—Messrs M. Bethell (chairman), W. 11. Atkinson, H. T Bcaven, 11. li. Davison, H. Hamptou, K. Pettigrow, J. Lee, jun., and G. O. Rutherford. The Cliief Surveyor, Christchurch, forwarded a tracing of Hanmer township, showing portion of Hanmer i'luntatiou liesorve 3780 aa vested in the Tourist Department. It wae resolved that tho reso.ution granting Mi W. 11. Atkinson permission to lop branches be rescinded, and that the Tourist Department be naked to endorso the permission granted to Mr Atkinson. The District Telegraph. Engineer forwarded plan showing underground te.ephone cables recently laid in the Waiau township. The Automobile Association complained of an oveihanging high live fencc between Rotherbam and Waiau. Tho clerk was directed to .inform the owners to put ihe fence in proper order. Mr Stot-t, manager Lyndon Station, was granted permission to erect a gate on ■iJeaven's road near the Lyndon homestead. The clerk stated he had ordered ii whare 16ft x 7ft, at £35 on truck, Chrislchureh. A petition was received from ratepayers in the liotherham iliding asking that the road from Mr M. Crampon's corner to tlie Hermitage be metalled. It was decided to call tenders for one milo of metal.ing. Complaints were recoi.cd irom. several ratepayers of horses straying on the gras3 road. It was decided to fence the gravel reserve, and that the contractor's horses "Do peddocked there. Tho Tawera County Council wrote urging united action against the kea pest. It was decided to write to the Minister of Agriculture and Mr G. W. Forbes, M.P., asking that the protection- of keas I%a removed, and that the Government subsidy be increased te 2a Gd per head. The manager, St. Helens Station, complained of the state of Jollie's Pace road and Mitchell's cutting. It was decided to ask Kifn to put them in order at tho Council's expense. v The manager, St. James Station, pointed out that the driving spur, Jack's pass, was in a bad state. It was decided to have it put in order. It was decided to support the Bangitikei County Council in asking the Minister of Public Works remove the restrictions at present attached 'to the issue of authorities to local bodies +o carry out works carrying a Government The clerk was appointed inspector of motorcare. It was. decided to accept Mr H. Halkett's tender for eection ■at Kotherham at a yearly rental of £7 10s, for a period of seven years from November Ist, 1918. . j It was decided that the Council should make a? .inspection of the Lyndon protective ■works. .The clerk reported that during the month ! surveys had been made of.Brown's creek reserve and Hanmer'road reserve, also the oneacre block of land had been.locatcd near the j boundary between Culverden and Montrose, j now on Mr Gallagher's property. Owing to the fact .that this land was ' not suitable for stock purposes, the chairman'reported he had j aa exchange with Mr Gallagher lor a piece of land of similar size at Leslie Hills j road corner. The chairman's, action was approved, anil the clerk! was directed' to arrange the necessary transfer. ■ It was decided to enquire from the Audi-toi-General if the money raised by public subscription for the doctor's fund were paid tc tW North Oanterbpy Hospital Board would it carry a subsidy from the Government. ' Mr Hickman wrote stating 1 that Glynn Wye xoad required immediate. attentions, and _ enquiring about his' letter box. It was decided to grant him permission to place his letter box on the Culverden cade of the rabbit gate, Hanmer road.
CHEVIOT
, At the laefc meeting of the Cheviot County Council there were present—Councillors T. G Geo (chairman), J. H. L. Hiatt, C. Borneo, G. L. Rutherford, and T. Stevenson. Apologies fur absence were ' received from Councillors Jackson and Jameson. Mr G. W. Forbes, M.P., wrote enclosing a letter from the Minister of Public Works regarding applications for £ for £ subsidy for bridges. ■ Mr McGrath oalled attention to the bad state of his road. It was resolved that it'be attended to as soon as possible.
