FRUITGROWERS' ASSOCIATION.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting- of the Canterbury Fruitgrowers' Association was held on Saturday night, Mr J. Longton presiding. Tho chairman reported on tho protest of tho Association against tho liberation of opossums in fruit-growing difitricte. The committor, be eaid, had gono fully into tins matter,- and iiad ascertained that opossums had been seen in various Canterbury districts. Tho committee was of opinion that in tlic interests of orchardiste tile restrictions should be removed. It was decided to tnako further strong representations to the Minister : in the njattor. Tho Teviot and Central Ofctgo Associations ; wrote strongly favouring the immediate adop- ; tiori of the principle of charging for cases. It- was moved that the Association should support tho principle as far as tho Dunedin market was concerned. The chairman remarked that in the JCorth. Mand fruit was cold by the case, and in Dunedin by tho pound, so thnt tho latter was hardly a good place to try tho experiment. The necessity for the general adoption of standardised cases -throughout the Dominion was referred to by various speakers, and it 1 was pointed out that tbe Government was now preparing regulations to enforco the -use of standardised oases. -.The motion 'was eventually carried. •The Rangiora Association wrote urging thai the Government loans to assist in the crection of cold stores for fruit should be granted to bona fide fruitgrowers or associations in preference to privs-to concerns, and also urging that maximum and "uniform charges should be enforced. • Svmpathy with the proposal was expressed by the chairman and other members. The General Committee was appointed a Show -Schedule Committer, and S. J. Ffitch. R. May. TV. J. Courtier. G. Archer, and i\ Sisson -were added to tbe committer. A committee of nine was .ipnointed to supervise and report on tiie Federation's «nrr>Tine experiments in Canterbury, Messrs C'. P. Taylor and Anderson having agrped to the experiments being conducted in their orchards.
