DEPARTING SOLDIERS.
VARIOUS PRESENTATIONS.
Advantage was taken by the Springston Patriotic Committee to present the district's gold modal to Private W. Memory, who is on final leave, at the St. Mary's Church on Thursday evening. Mr J. W. Kime, chairman of tho committee, assisted by Mrs Kime, made tho presentation, and tho Rev. F. B. Redgravo gave an address, 1 convoying to tho soldier the good wishes of the community for his welfare and safe return. On Tuesday evening, at the regular meeting ot the Ethelbcrt Lodge, U.A.0.D., Springston, Bro. F. W. Greaves, District President, on behalf of the members, presented Bro. W. Memory (who is leaving with tho Expeditionary Forces), with a luminous wristlet watch. Tho soldier brother suitably recognised the gift. In tho ante-room of tho Belfast Town Hall, on Friday evening, a number of Belfast residents met for the purpose of giving Private A. Howard a send-off. Mr E. J. Wotton, on behalf of tho people of Belfast, presented Private Howard with a. safety-razor, and wished him God-speed and a safe roturn. Privates "Wallie" Howie and "Jock" Spencer, of the Nomads Football Club, who are in Christchurch on final leave, were entertained by tho club at the Oxford Hotel on Friday evening, when thero wero about forty members present. Mr P. I/. Davies, the club president, in presenting a "soccer" football from the club to Howie, for tho use of ths reinforcements atTauherenikau, said that if those of their members who had enlisted were all in training at ono time, four full teams would he available, as somo forty of the Nomads playing members had done, or wero doing, their "bit" for King and country. Musical items wero given by Messrs Woods,. Grant, Warbnrton, Mitchell, and Frickleton, Mr Boh Edwards acting as accompanist. Private Jack Spencer, who is down on final leave, was, during last week, met by his numerous friends and presented with a soldier's diary, pocketbook. arid a fountain, pen/ Mr P. O'Callaghan, who made tho presents tion, referred to the many good qualities of the recipient, who suitably replied. Private Spencer returns to camp to-night.
