A number of appeals have been received by the Canterbury Military Service Board, and these will be adjudicated upon next Tuesday and Wednesday. . . As soon as the medical examinations are over, the local authorities forward ail names to Wellington, and the military authorities there will hand the names of defaulters to the Justice Department. in order that the police may arrest them, and send them straight into camp. All members of the permanent stair who are in the First Division and have not already seen active service, have received notice to report themselves at. camp for the purpose of being posted to the Reinforcements. This does not apply to members of tho temporary staff. Last night two members of the Christchiirch quota of the 24th Reinforcements, F. W.■ G. Rule and • Douglas, left for Trentham. THE SECOND DIVISION. QUESTION OF CLASSIFICATION. \t a deputation to the Hon. James Allen at Dunedin, on Tuesday, Colonel Stoneham raised the question of the classification of the men in the Second Division of the Reserve. He instanced the case of a man with a wife and four children who was desirous of arranging his affairs to enable him to go when called upon, and pointed out that in the Second Division there were men with one child and men with seven or eight children. It would surely be unfair to conscript the man with the large family while the man' with one child remained. The Hon. Mr Allen replied that his own ffceling was in favour of the classification of the Second Division. For oDe thing there was tho economic reason that it was better for the State to take the man with the smaller responsibility before the oth.Gr roan, as it would entail less expense. There were other reasons why the man with one child should be put in the ballot before the man with four, five,. or six children.
