ST. ANDREW'S COLLEGE.

MEETING OF BOARD OF GOVERNORS. The first meeting of the Board of Governors of St. Andrew's College was held yesterdav afternoon at St. Andrew's Church Hall. There were present: —Revs. Dr. Erwin, J. Pater son, A. T. Thompson, C. Murray, W. Haines, A. W. Aitken, Messrs J. Ferguson, W. McCrostie, "W. Gobs, A. W. McGibbon, and W. Oakley. The Rev. Dr. Erwin was elected chairman of the Board, the Rev. J. Paterson secretivry, and Mr W\ S. McGibbon treasurer. The Board proceeded to elect as first Principal Mr S. R. Dickinson, M.A., at a salary of £400 and residence. Many striking testimonials in favour of Mr Dickinson were read from such educationists as Dr. John Smyth, of Melbourne, Mr Littlejohn. of Scots' College, Melbourne; Principal Jones, of Hobart, and Professor Carslaw, of Sydney. Mr Dickinson addressed the Board, and outlined his educational ideals and methods. He said he was convinced of the value of church schools in tho formation of character, and showed hott- he ever tried to develop corporate enthusiasm in the school, not only for sport but for work. He considered that tlie aim of a school should be the awakening of a real love for a boy's life -woik. based on Christian character. The question of fees was discussed, and they were fixed iVs follows: —Junior school, 3 guineas per term; middle, 4} guineas; upper, G guineas. For boarders, inclusive of tuition, the fees were fixed : —Juniors 20 guineas ; middle school 22J guineas, upper school 25 guineas. It. was arranged for a deputation to wait on the Domain Board to arrange for playing grounds in Hagley Park \ arious details as to prospectus and finances were left to sub-committees to consider and report to the next meeting of the Board.
