Sister Bertha Duke, N.Z.A.N.S., returned to New Zealand on Tuesday last, after an absence of nearly twelve months in Egypt and England. She left the hospital ship Marama upon her arrival at Melbourne, in order to spend her leave with friends in Tasmania. Sister Duke is now at Trenthgm Military Hospital. Mrs John Barton, of Trcntham, has received a cable message from her son, Mr Wilfred Barton, that owing to bronchial asthma he is obliged to return to New Zealand. Mr Barton joined an aviation school as soon a s lie arrived in England, and was one of ten out of two hundred who succeeded in passing the efficiency examination. Mr Barton obtained first place in tho examination. The Rev. T. Halliday. who has been resident minister of the Lansdowno (Wairarapa) Presbyterian Church during the last two and a-half years, has received advice that his services have been accepted in connexion with Y.M.C.A. field work in France. Mr Hallidav was closely connected with the Y.M.C.A. in Glasgow for many years, and has also occupied a seat on the Wairarapa Board of Management. Mr Halliday will sail with the 20th Reinforcements. Mr Arthur J. Gillman has been apnoinfed junior resident master at the Napier Boys' High School, in succession to Mr S. Iv. Siddells, who has enlisted and goes into camp at-, the beginning of next year. Mr Gillman was born in Dunedin, being dux of the George street School, and a scholarship holder at the Otago Boys' High School. Ho was prominent in all sports and a first-class shot. He had enlisted and was on the eve of departure with the 15th Reinforcements when he had the misfortune to catch a severe cold, which developed into pneumonia, which illness finally caused him to be discharged.
